About Me

Hi! My name is Grace, and I will be going to Moldova this summer. This previous school year I found out about an amazing program called the National Security Language Initiative for Youth, or NSLI-Y.( For more about NSLI-Y, check out my NSLI-Y page or their website http://www.nsliforyouth.org.) I applied last year, and wasn't accepted for the program, and while I was disappointed, I ended up going to the Russian Language Village at the Concordia Language Villages in Northern Minnesota, where I had an amazing time. I applied to NSLI-Y again this year, and I was accepted for the Russian program in late February. Needless to say, excited doesn't begin to describe how I felt. This blog will follow my preparation for and my time in Chisinau, Moldova.

  1. Hi Grace! We seem to have similar fates. I also applied last year to NSLI-Y Russian Summer and was an alternate, but never got to make the trip. Last summer I went to the Concordia Language Villages for French (Lac du Bois) and reapplied this past school year for the Russian Summer. Now I'm going to Chisinau after they cancelled the Kazan program. Never having left the country before, I am extremely excited, but as you said, that doesn't really describe the feeling of anticipation. I don't know anyone who is part of the NSLI-Y program, so I look forward to meeting you on Thursday! Where will you be traveling from?

    1. Hi! What a coincidence! I was actually a camper last summer at Lac du Bois (Bemidji) as well as лесное озеро. I am driving down from the Philadelphia area on Thursday. Where will you be traveling from? I am so excited to meet everyone!

  2. Awesome! Another French speaker! Maybe we can practice when we're not working on Russian. I'm going to be traveling from Kensington, Maryland, a DC suburb. À bientôt !
